This course is for adults who: • Have tried everything and nothing seems to work • Deal with frequent challenging behavior that won’t resolve with typical child guidance interventions • Feel worn down, helpless, overwhelmed or hopeless despite trying their best • Want evidence-based strategies for long-term change, not a band-aid or temporary quick fix • Are open to looking inward as part of changing the adult-child dynamic for a healthier relationship This course is not: • A program for help with adolescents or teens • A quick fix; because, I want you to have lasting success • A behavior chart, reward system or other outdated practice that actually can be more harmful to the child • Therapy or a diagnosis; but if you want that you can email me here [email protected]

Meet Your Instructor
Laura Fish M.S., LMFT is a marriage and family therapist and education consultant with over 30 years of experience supporting young children and the adults who care for them. Her work focuses on helping adults understand what’s driving behavior—both in children and in themselves—so they can respond, rather than react, to challenges. You learn to “see the child behind the behavior" so you are teaching and parenting based on science not habit. Meaning, you do what works and is healthy: for both you and the child. Laura began her career as a preschool teacher and later worked as a mental health consultant in early childhood programs, including Head Start, public schools, and home-based settings. She has partnered with child welfare and special education teams to support children with complex needs and the families raising them. She is trained in trauma-informed practices, including EMDR, and brings a deep understanding of how stress and past experiences shape behavior in the present. For this course, Laura draws on decades of hands-on experience and research, to help parents and caregivers of young children make sense of big reactions—both the child’s and their own—and develop more sustainable ways of navigating hard moments without blame or burnout. Laura currently splits her time between her private therapy practice and consulting with early childhood education programs.
What People Are Saying

It's funny: you need to take a course to drive, classes for most professions, and you need training to be a pro athlete. But anyone can just have a child! This course made me realize I was parenting based on habit, for sure! Not science, as Laura suggests. She also did a great job encouraging us to allow our culture and values influence how we implement the "science." Meaning, we could make adaptations. I am working on healing some of my unhealed wounds from childhood and it's starting to give me more bandwidth for my child.
Parent
Parents: take this course now! Laura has a way of delivering the information compassionately and clearly so even if it might be hard to hear (who knew time outs were not good for kids????) it's so helpful. Please do more trainings, Laura. I feel like I am just getting started on updating my "software" as you put it.
Caregiver
My English is not good. So I just say this course change me. Change my relationship with my son. We are grateful to you, Laura.
Mom
I honestly just wanted a handful of tips and resisted this whole "learn" thing. Lol. Meaning, I was so tired and overwhelmed I just wanted a short cut. Luckily, I decided to give this course a try anyway. I am so glad I did. It's a lot of really good material, but it didn't feel overwhelming. I actually walked away with so many "tips" but even better? I learned how to observe and understand what was happening for my child. So I can respond in developmentally appropriate ways. And, as a result, we have a stronger connection than ever and there is way more peace in my house. Thank you so much, Laura!
Dad
I don’t know how Laura does it, but she makes complex information about the brain understandable and fun to learn! Before we took her training, I was annoyed with people always talking about the ‘science’ because it never made sense to me. After the series “Teaching with the Brain in Mind,” my team and I are much more confident in our ability to work with children with challenging behavior. Our whole classroom has been transformed. We no longer feel overwhelmed and hopeless. Once Laura taught us how to look for the ‘brain reasons’ for behaviors, we were able to apply our strategies much more effectively.
Teacher
My staff was overwhelmed, discouraged, and half threatening to quit when I hired Laura to do a professional development series for us. I don't know how, but she managed to reinvigorate the staff, help them reframe the challenges that were arising with the children, explore their role and empower them to make changes that had impact almost immediately. I owe it to Laura. We need more training, but for now we are in a much better place!

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Wrong! I had raised my four kids and thought what the heck, maybe this course will show me something different to do with my grandchildren. Well did it ever. Wow. So much of what I did back then I realize now was not great. But I didn't feel bad about myself because Laura is so encouraging. She keeps reassuring that we do/did the best we could with the knowledge we had. Thank goodness for this new knowledge, though.
